Its been a week since the declaration of Civil Services 2012 Final results and lot of water under the bridge. This week has been really tough and unbearable for me. I gave it my all to this exam and still lost the race to the Holy Grail of Indian administration. I was hoping to win this quest of Gold but now i have to live with the less precious Silvery Job.
I seriously started preparing for Civil Services in 2011 when i was 28, before that i was only romancing with the idea. Perhaps this was the most blunderous decision i have ever taken. The right time to prepare for Civil Services is always in early 20s but i have had my own problems and responsibilities and could not afford to quit the job that gave so much hope and prosperity to my siblings, mother, grandparents, wife and my little kid. To continuing working in ever demanding IT Job (and in a company like mine) along with preparing for Civil Services is perhaps the most arduous and difficult Job. I have spent almost all the weekends, mornings, late evenings and half of my hair preparing for this Job. I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and in the end also succeeded in clearing the most coveted exam of India but the dream of becoming a District Magistrate remains a dream. I can not write this exam again although this was my second attempt as i have crossed 30 year age limit so my dream will always remain with me and die with me like a genetic defect.
I am waiting for the Service Allocation to happen, generally it happens in late July (or early August) and now my best bet is to get Indian Revenue Service/IP&TAFS/IA&AS. Whatever i get, i will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of the financial system of India or collecting taxes for the People of India and if God helps me i can rise to the very top of my potential field/ministry/department. I can only hope for it. Amen.

All the best dear. Wish you all the best so that you may get the best option available.
Why do you sound so low. Its fine. Life takes you to where you belong to and its always the best place to be in.
I left my so called 'demanding' IT job to start my own business and now I feel that my business demands 10 times more than my IT job.
Please do not say - "kam se kam apne liye kaam kar rahe ho". Let me clarify, even when I was an employee I was still working for myself only.
I enjoyed working as an employee and I am enjoying working as a businessman so finally all that matters is - whether you enjoy your work or not.

Hi Sir.... what were your optionals? Can u pls share your marks in the optionals? Paper 1 of the 1st optional has been given a rough treatment this year, especially pub ad....I hav chosen pub ad as my optional....but after seeing the marks of a few aspirants in pub ad dis year, i am very concerned about my choice..
History and Geography. Got very good marks in History (118, 156) but got bad marks in Geography (79, 119). You are right, first paper of almost every optional was screwed this year. Good luck.
Hi Sir.... Can you please help me in organizing a strategy to get hold over indian culture? I hav dat spectrum book on culture. But the amount of info in dat book is overwhelming. How to selectively go about it? Pls mention the resources on culture you referred to during your preparation.
@Sandeep
You have to divide the culture stuff into different sections, i mainly read on internet
1. Religions
2. Festivals
3. Dances (classical/folk)
4. Theatre(classical/folk)
5. Music (classical/folk)
6. Heritage sites
7. Great personalities
8. Awards
9. Current news on Culture
10. Paintings/Arts
11. Languages
12. etc
Hi Sir... Should i just google them? Please mention some websites for reading these culture stuffs....
Yes, just google them. Another source is the the website of Ministry of Culture.
