This week rounds up (23-28) March

Guys, i have been busy these days and did not get much time for the movies, quietly engrossed in the Mughal history of India. Some how got a chance to enjoy few movies:

1. Lonely are the brave (1962)
I am a big fan of Kirk Douglas after watching Spartacus, Paths of glory and Cast a giant shadow. This movie has done no good. I still doubt why this movie was made. The role of Kirk Douglas signifies the cowboy anachronism in old USA. 4/10.

2. The outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
Yet another masterpiece by Clint Eastwood. He is undoubtedly a living legend. This movie is about a person who became an outlaw in order to take revenge for his family against the union red legs. The face to face shooting is worth watching. The only disgusting thing is the spitting of Josey on dead faces. 8/10.

3. Battle Star Galactica (2004-2009)
My all time favourite sci-fi series ended last week. The humans and cylons finally find earth after going through many cycles of construction and destruction, as they say "It has happened before. It will happen again". I completely enjoyed all the 4 seasons of BSG and i have become a great fan of entire team. Adamas, Roslin, Starbuck, Baltar, Tigh Chief etc are simply awesome. This series is a must for any sci-fi lover. 9/10.

The movies this week

Sorry for such a long hiatus. I am again back with the reviews:

1. Gulal (2009)
Being a Rajput, i had a special inclination towards this movie. But this movie disappointed me. I was expecting a better show from the makers of "Black Friday". The movie is good in bits and pieces. Piyush Mishra acted brilliantly. Lyrics are quite original while music is just ordinary. 6/10.
2. The man who shot liberty valance (1962)
To see Lee Marvin, John Wayne and James Stewart in a single movie is quite an achievement. Its about the "to spread civilization" mission of James Stewart in a western country. 7/10.
3. The Shootist (1976)
Its the last movie of legendary John Wayne and quite an interesting one. 6/10.
4. Dead Man (1995)
Its a Johnny Depp movie. Its about the process of becoming a bad man. The Indian "Gary Farmer" acted brilliantly. 6/10.
5. Ride the High Country (1962)
Another normal Western flick. 6/10.
6. Planet of Apes 1-5 (1968-73)
Its a sci-fi master piece. I enjoyed it very much and could not stop myself to watch the entire series of movies in a single day. This movie raises very serious questions on the very existence of "The Human Civilisation". 8/10.

The week rounds up

I have no idea why my blog is turning into a movie review trash. Initially i thought it would be a good idea (shamelessly quoting the words of Steve Mcqueen from The Magnificent seven).

1. Great Indian Railways (BBC/National Geographic channel documentary)
Its a beautiful documentary on one of the greatest transport systems of the world. Indian railways serving Indians with without any discrimination on the basis of various legends of discrimination. Its a beautiful tribute.(7/10)

2. Helen Of Troy (2003)
Its a low budget TV movie based on the legendary Trojan War. Hector once again killed by Achilles while Argamemnon kills Paris without any prejudice. Helen was not a face in this movie that could even a launch a single ship. Anyways a nice movie. (6/10).

3. Zwartboek aka Black Book (2006)

Another movie inspired by the Jewish tragedies of world war 2. Ellis is a face (that can launch few ships ;)) that is fighting hard to save her after seeing the horrible massacre of her family by the Nazis. I will say this movie requires parental guidance as Ellis has shown everything for the sake of the Resistance against the Nazis in occupied Holland. Worth watching. 7.5/10.

4. The Magnificent Seven (1960)
Another western classic movie. Poor Mexican farmers hire cowboy gun fighter to save them from the terror of bandits. Bollywood flick China Gate is a copy of this movie and even dialogues are shamelessly copied. 7.5/10.

5. Australia (2008)
This movie is about the lost generations of Aborigines who were forcefully taken from their parents by the Australian authority in order to "civilize" them. Nicole Kidman looks very elegant and Hugh Jackman is as rough as he can. Kevin Costner's "Dance with Wolves" beats this movie hands down. 7/10.

6. Few Dollars More (1965)
Clint Eastwood is back with a powerful performance again. I am becoming an addict of western movies. 8/10.

7. A fist full of dollars (1964)
Another Clint Eastwood movie. A lot of action by the man with no name. 7/10.
