Book Review [166] : The Courage To Be Disliked
'The Courage to be disliked' by Ichiro Kishimi and Fumitake Koga is a book inspired by Adlerian Psychology. I bought it from Amazon after seeing it as a best sellers and 'Over three million copies sold worldwide' written on top of it. I have read many self help books but i will not rate this book in my top 5 books.
I gave sufficient time and energy to read this book but it failed to inspire me. I think i am at fault in getting some thing meaningful from this book. The few concepts that can be useful in one's life:
- Separation of tasks
- Feeling of community
- Having confidence in others
- Horizontal relationships
- We always have a choice to chose our destiny
- Cribbing over past is not right
- Everything is a complex of inter personal relationship problems
- Praise and Rebuke are manipulative tools
- Respecting boundaries are important
This book is written in a dialogue form and this has put me off. At many places it reeks of boredom and banal megalomania.
Time Pass Read (5/10)

My reading list of 2023
2023 is finally over. It was the best of the years, it was the worst of the years like every passing year. Not many books i read this year. I read four books this year:
162. 'The 48 laws of power by Robert Greene' This is a collection of 48 laws - basically common sense. It has more than 100 interesting anecdotes from history involving Sparta, Athens, Napoleon, Alexander, Cyrus, Rommel, Colombus etc. A good read to stop and ponder. Only caution is that do no let this book change core of your unique personality. Read it with pinch of salt. Recommended (8/10).
163. 'Why We Sleep' by @sleepdiplomat (Mathew Walker) is perhaps the most seminal book I read in 2023. Over a period of more than a decade I never slept more than 5 hours/day. This book is a kind of revelation. We must sleep at least 7 hours everyday to ensure our mind works in a logical and healthy manner. We tend to forget this and deprive our mind/brain of necessary recovery. Highly recommended book (10/10).
164. This is the least important book that i read in 2023. Though I like the concept of death and the story of Japanese fighter Hiroo Onada but still not much in this book. You can safely ignore it.
165. I started reading this book on Kindle then I bought the hard copy. It's a great book for personal transformation & to get yourself out from the rut.
It's all age old wisdom in the book.
Early to sleep, early to rise. Reflections. It is not very new in the book. We all know that we should wake early and should sleep early but not all of us follow it. The beauty of this book lies in its convincing arguments. Because of this i started waking up early at about 0545-0600 every morning and i am loving every bit of it. I will recommend every one to read this book and you can gift this book too. Highly Recommended (10/10).
